The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, handed over new sports facilities and equipment to Inanda Newtown Comprehensive High School.
“Most of our public schools, including this school, were not built with the mind of a sport facility,” explains Kodwa.
He says this is not part of the governing party’s election campaigns, but rather part of government interventions to uplift sports in under-resourced communities.
“‘People will say I’m campaigning, but I’m done with campaigning now. I’m just waiting for the 29th of May,’ Minister Kodwa said, emphasising that the handover of the sports facilities
The school received a multi-sport court and sport equipment. Kits and equipment were given to four other schools in Inanda township.
“We have identified a number of schools in areas where there is no facility,” he says
Governing body chairperson, Bhekuyise Mpanza, says he feels that it’s the entire community and not just the school that will benefit from the new facilities.
“We are grateful because previously we didn’t have any sport facilities in the school and I hope this will help these students focus on sports and not on unimportant things,” said Mpanza.
