Durban City FC captain Sphamandla Ncanana has urged his fellow teammates to put their heads forward ahead of the crucial Betway Premiership encounter against Orlando Pirates tomorrow at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The newly promoted side is currently sitting on the 7th spot with 19 points from 13 games. They played to a goalless draw against Richards Bay FC at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex this past weekend.
“What I have picked up from our match against Chiefs was the lack of concentration towards the end of the match. I think also what we have been working on at training as you have seen in our previous match we were focused until the last whistle. So, I think going to the match on Saturday against Pirates we need to stay alive and focused until the end of the match, which I think will help us,” Ncanana said.
On the other hand, Durban City defender, Fezile Gcaba said experienced players play a major role in helping the youngsters to prepare their minds ahead of such big matches.
“In matches like this you need to play the game not the occasion. As the team is coming from a lower division, there are some players who are not used to playing in a fully packed stadium. The mood is okay, everyone is motivated and everyone wants to do well against the big team in South Africa because that’s the way of testing yourself as a player,” he said.
Durban City will be looking to climb up the ladder while Orlando Pirates will be hoping to continue with their impressive form as they are joint log leaders with Mamelodi Sundowns with 25 points.
