“We expect them to go to AFCON not only to make up numbers. They are going there to perform, and they are going there to lift the trophy,” said Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates legend – Mark Fish.
The defender was part of the 1996 Bafana Bafana African Cup of Nations winning squad.
Fish spoke exclusively to Credible Source following Bafana’s 2-1 win over Angola in their opening encounter at the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) currently held in Morocco.
“The first game against Angola was a very important win given that the Angolan side are physically strong and play some very good football, and I think it was important,” said Fish.
He said he is looking forward to the second game of the tournament against the mighty Pharaohs.
“The next game is the game of the group, and no disrespect to the other teams in the group. Egypt comes with a lot of history, a lot of experience, they have a coach who has won it as a player and obviously expectations will be to win it as a coach.”
“We’ve also got Hugo Broos that has also won it as a coach before with Cameroon. So, a lot of history, a lot of passion from each that they bring to the game. I think a lot of skill, raw talent from Bafana Bafana from South Africa that we bring to this match.”
“It’s North vs South and North African Football has always been close to Europe with the dominance, discipline and organised where you got this raw skill that comes with flair,” added Fish.
Egypt will square-off against Bafana tomorrow at 17h00 in the group B encounter.
