In a twisted turn of events, the Hollywoodbets Sharks have confirmed Siyamthanda Kolisi will leave the franchise at the conclusion of the current season.
The two-time World Cup-winning Springbok captain will rejoin the Cape Town side, DHL Stormers.
Kolisi said the Sharks have been a special part of his journey.
“From the players and coaches to the staff and supporters, this is a team with strong values and a real sense of family. I have loved being part of this group and especially enjoyed seeing the younger guys develop and gain confidence. While I had hoped to complete my career at the Sharks, I have to be there for my family who were unable to relocate to Durban. This decision wasn’t easy, but it is about being closer to my kids,” said Kolisi.
Sharks CEO, Shaun Byrans said the Sharks are built on the principle of family first and Kolisi’s decision has been made in the interests of his children as he looks to be closer to them and his family base in the Cape.
“Siya’s time in Durban has been defined by leadership, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to the game. A global rugby icon and one of the most respected figures in sport, he has been an outstanding ambassador for the Sharks brand and has played a meaningful role in shaping the culture of the squad during his time with the club,” said Byrans.
While Kolisi is set to leave, the Durban-based side announced eight new re-signings to round out the year namely Phepsi Buthelezi, Fez Mbatha, Litelihle Bester, Dian Heunis, Simphiwe Ngobese, Thomas Dier, Phiwo Kubheka, and Chijindu Okonta.
