Fine Art students from the Durban University of Technology (DUT) were treated to an exhibition that explores identity, belonging and movement at the The KZNSA Society of Art gallery recently. The show was titled The In Between.

“The exhibition featured an impressive array of works developed through various mediums, including welding, paper making, screen printing, and ceramics workshops. Each piece was a testament to the artists’ creativity and skill, as they pushed the boundaries of their chosen mediums.” Explained lecturer, Carla Da-Cruze.

Some of the works on show have been created by DUT Master’s students, exchange students from the University of Art Bremen and local artists.

Among the talented artists showcasing their work were Jessica Bothma from South Africa, Durban; Abdulghaffar Tammaa from Germany; and Ilona Karacsony from Hungary. Their contributions added a unique perspective to the exhibition, highlighting the diversity of experiences and backgrounds that shape our understanding of identity, belonging, and movement.

“The art and  installation on display embrace the notion of the In-Between as a space for arrival, departure and transition and connection,” explained Karacsony.

The In Between was a resounding success, attracting a diverse crowd of art enthusiasts, students, and members of the local community. KZNSA says they continuously support emerging artists through their exhibitions.
