The Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Thami Ntuli, says the undocumented foreign nationals found in a factory in KwaDukuza during a raid will be deported back to their home countries.
The CEO and director of the factory were arrested when law enforcement and the Department of Home Affairs forced their entry into the premises during their Operation Engangeni Ngensangu, Iyafohla.
“We promise to give an update on what will happen to the owner of the factory along with her director,” said KwaZulu-Natal police comminister, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
.
There were over 50 men who were arrested during the raid. Ntuli says the employment of undocumented foreign nationals results in unemployment for South Africans which fuels other problems.
“Employers who exploit undocumented workers are not only breaking the law but are also denying opportunities to local job seekers by giving preference to cheap labour,” Ntuli explained.
There have been a number of raids in various places in KwaZulu-Natal in the last few weeks.
