Stellenbosch FC’s acquisition, is confident that he will acquit himself well in replacing departed club captain Deano van Rooyen.
Kyle Jurgens signed his first professional contract with the club in November 2023, following his success in the reserve team’s 2021/22 DStv Diski the Challenge and Next Gen Cup.
”Firstly, I would like to say good luck to Deano. He’s been great for the team, and I wish him well. Secondly, stepping up (to replace) him is a great thing. It’s a great deal for me. I am excited about reaching my career goals and I am ready to take on new challenges and make my mark,” said the 20-year-old midfielder.
Stellenbosch has experienced the departure of key players, raising concerns in light of the increased games they will play in continental football this season.
Jurgens, who now plays as a right-back, expressed no concern about being converted, adding that he is ready to fill Van Rooyen’s shoes.
”I will take it like I am ready, because I never really grew up with getting things my way. I will take this opportunity with both hands and show the coach that I am grateful for what he has done for me so far,” he concluded.
Stellenbosch FC is set to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban tonight.
