The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Men’s Football team have secured a spot in the semi-finals of the University Sports South Africa games (USSA) currently taking place at the Hillcrest Sports Campus at the University of Pretoria.
The team beat the University of the Western Cape (UWC) 5-4 on penalties in the quarter finals after the match ended goalless.
The results meant DUT FC made history by becoming the first ever DUT football team to make it to the semi-finals of the USSA Football tournament and they have also automatically qualified for next year’s Varsity Football.
Speaking to the media, captain of the team, Xolani Mkhonza, expressed joy as his side continues to do well.
“We are very excited to be in the semi-finals. The tournament is not over yet; we are going to go full force tomorrow (meaning today). Humble as you rise, vamos,” said Mkhonza.
in the semis at 4pm this afternoon at Tuks Field C, the DUT FC side with face Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) who beat them 2-1 in the group stages as they look to go all the way and claim their first ever title. The second semi-final will see University of Pretoria squaring off with University of Johannesburg at Field A.
