    Looking for something fun to do this August? Whether you’re planning a chilled day out with friends, a live music experience or a Women’s Month celebration, Durban has plenty happening. Here are a few events worth adding to your calendar.

    Doek On Fleek 10-Year Celebration

    When: 1&2 August
    Where: People’s Park, Moses Mabhida Stadium

    Doek On Fleek (Doek Nation) is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a two-day festival honouring women, culture and community. What began as a headwrap-themed picnic has grown into a movement celebrating African identity, confidence and self-expression.

    The event will feature performances by Khuzani, Mafikizolo and Busiswa, alongside other entertainment and activities. Tickets start from R150 – R500.

    Tamia Live

    When: 7 August
    Where: Durban ICC

    If you’re an R&B fan, this one’s for you. Multi-award-winning singer Tamia returns to South Africa as part of The Biggest Women’s Month Celebration Tour Experience. Best known for hits including So Into You, Tamia will perform in Durban before heading to Pretoria and Cape Town. Tickets range between R950 – R2000.

    Park Festival featuring Zonke

    When: 15 August
    Where: Chris Saunders Park, Umhlanga

    Award-winning singer-songwriter Zonke Dikana will headline the Park Festival in Umhlanga. Expect an afternoon of great music in one of Durban’s popular outdoor venues. Tickets cost R300.

    Brenda Mtambo Live

    When: 15 August
    Where: Opera Theatre, The Playhouse Company

    Award-winning Afro-soul singer Brenda Mtambo brings a heartfelt performance inspired by the hymns that shaped her childhood. According to The Playhouse Company, the show blends gospel, Afro-soul and contemporary African music in a tribute to her upbringing and grandmother’s influence.

    General admission tickets start at R350, while VIP tickets cost R500.

    Legends Live

    When: 15 August
    Where: The Barnyard Theatre, Suncoast

    If tribute shows are your thing, Legends Live promises an evening of music celebrating some of the world’s biggest stars. Featuring a nine-piece cast, the production recreates the sounds and performances of iconic artists.

    The event is organised by Sinakekele Children, an organisation that provides care for babies and vulnerable children awaiting adoption. Tickets cost R225.
