A surveillance analyst at King Shaka International Airport has told the Durban High Court that CCTV footage from the day rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes was murdered had been tampered with.
Witness Sandile Khuzwayo made the revelation on Monday while testifying in the ongoing murder trial of the seven men accused of killing AKA and celebrity chef Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane. The pair were gunned down outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road in Durban on 10 February 2023.
Khuzwayo showed the court CCTV footage of a man resembling one of the accused following AKA and his entourage as the rapper arrived at King Shaka International Airport and made his way to the car rental section.
The State previously indicated that it had evidence placing one of the accused at the airport on the day Forbes was killed. It also alleged that the rapper was followed from the airport to the Hilton Hotel in Umhlanga, where he had booked accommodation for his stay in Durban, and later to Florida Road where he was eventually killed.
Addressing the time gaps and differences in the footage presented to the court, Khuzwayo confirmed again on Tuesday when he was under re-examination by the State that the CCTV footage had been tampered with. He told the court that he had documentation to support his claim.
